Hotel Chantaco Golf & Wellness

We paid €15 to bring our pet, and the room itself was okay, though the shower quality was poor. The place is an old mansion turned into a hotel, but it felt more like a guest house. There was no reception after 11 pm, just a security guard who didn’t speak English. They said there was a restaurant, but it was only snacks like a cheese board and croquettes, so we went out for a decent dinner. The wine list was poor, with only four red and four white wines, and they weren’t quality wines. There was just one complimentary bottle of water for two people. Overall, quite poor, and in my opinion not a four star hotel, more like a guest house or two star experience.

We needed an easily accessible room, and they offered us a ground floor garden room beside the main hotel. Having disabled parking right outside the entrance was a great help. The room was comfortable, clean, and convenient, and the dining and breakfast facilities were very pleasant. There was also a secluded pool area to relax in. We found the place by chance, even though Biarritz was our main destination.

We return every year, so we clearly like the place. The room is very nice, the balcony is superb, and the petit-dejeuner is outstanding. The staff are excellent and the service is formidable. The guest really is treated like royalty.

The food was excellent, and the location is lovely. There’s a beautiful walk along the river into the city centre. The staff were excellent too. I’d only suggest adding one or two daily changing specials to the menu.
