We came for our first visit to Saint-Jean-de-Luz to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and ended up extending our stay from 3 to 5 nights. Jen and Mathieu were warm, welcoming and genuinely caring. They gave us great restaurant recommendations and helped us book tables. Breakfast was generous and delicious, with fresh, very local ingredients picked up from the market and boulangerie each morning. It was worth the €15 extra per person. The hotel is a down-to-earth little gem in the heart of town. The train and coach stations, clean beach with dolphins in the sea, market, shops, restaurants and even a small cinema are all a 5-10-minute walk away. It’s also well placed for trips beyond France: Hondarribia is a scenic 10-minute boat ride or a 15-minute drive away, and San Sebastian is only a 25 minute drive. Our room felt homely and was spotlessly clean, quiet when the balcony doors were closed, and cool and airy with a strong ceiling fan plus a desktop fan. When the doors were open in the morning, we could hear kids heading into the nearby school. Apparently there’s no aircon because of the building’s age and space. The bedding was high quality and extremely comfortable, and the balcony was a lovely bonus for a morning nespresso made in the room. For a place so central, it’s surprisingly peaceful before day-trippers arrive from late morning and after they’ve left by early evening. We loved absolutely everything and would return without hesitation. Highly, highly recommended!

My first time in Saint-Jean-de-luz, and this cute hotel was so convenient. Shops and markets are nearby, and the beach is just a few minutes’ walk away. The room was a decent size and stayed cool and airy in summer. Most of all, the hosts were very friendly. I’ll definitely come back if I visit again!

We stayed at Hôtel Les Almadies – Coeur de Ville for the Fêtes de la Saint-Jean in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, and it was a memorable part of a magical trip. The hosts were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and we felt looked after from the start. Since the husband is French and the wife American, they could offer helpful, tailored advice in both French and English. The hotel sits right in the town centre, surrounded by lovely shops, restaurants, cafés and the local market, with the beach a short walk away. Our cozy, comfortable room had a balcony over the street, giving us a front-row view of the St. John’s Day parade. Despite all the festivities, it stayed peaceful and quiet at night. Each morning’s breakfast was delicious, with local fruit, pastries, breads, cheeses and cold cuts, a lovely taste of the region’s produce. We also drove about 30 minutes to San Sebastián in Spain for a day trip. The food scene there is extraordinary, and it’s easy to see why the city is known for its high concentration of Michelin stars. We can’t wait to return!

On my first trip to Saint Jean de Luz, I found Hôtel Les Almadies to be a gem right in the heart of town. In just a few minutes on foot, you can get to shops, restaurants, supermarkets, the beach and the market hall, with fresh produce, cheese, ham, yogurt, bread and local catches. The owners were friendly and thoughtful, kept in touch before and during our visit, and offered lovely ideas for food and activities, including a day trip to San Sebastián. We felt safe and at home from the moment we walked in. Breakfast was delightful, with fresh baked goods, fruit, local hams and more. The local yogurt with cherry confiture was incredible. I’d highly recommend the hotel and hope to visit again.

The room looked straight onto the pedestrian street, but it wasn’t noisy since the tourists leave in the early afternoon. The beds were comfy, and our two-night stay in Saint Jean de Luz was very comfortable. I especially liked the fancy shampoo Jennifer chose. The hotel’s central, and the underground parking is great. Pay for breakfast, I recommend it: three kinds of yogurt, cow, goat and sheep, tasty bread, salted and unsalted butter, jams from the region, and ham you should try. After dinner, an enjoyable stroll along the sea wall is right there, and make sure to visit a wine bar. Thanks for a wonderful stay.
