Ignacio was especially thoughtful. When the Carrefour had closed and I couldn't find milk anywhere else for my evening tea, he brought me a pot from his own kitchen. That meant a lot. Other guests had great things to say about the restaurant, though we didn't eat lunch or dinner there. We spent three nights here in April before walking the Camino Francés. The hotel is in a charming building over 400 years old, and it has been well looked after while keeping its character. It's a 2-star place, but our room was clean, the bed was very comfortable, and the Wi-Fi worked perfectly. Breakfast had what we needed before walking: crusty bread, croissants, cheese, cold cuts, jam, Basque cake, and tea or coffee. The showers were wonderfully hot too.

The location is excellent, just a quick walk to the heart of town. Ignacio was a kind, friendly, hardworking host. I stayed in what I think was room # 1. The hotel is older, and the bedrooms could use some sprucing up, though my bathroom looked brand new. Breakfast was simple but had the basics we needed. One safety improvement I'd suggest is a motion sensor for the downstairs lights. It was dark enough that I worried about falling on the stairs.

The outside of Remperts cafe looked very cute, with red painted shutters and flowers, and the location was great. But the room was tiny for two and very dated, with worn-looking comforter covers. They wouldn't let us check in until 4 pm, unlike other hotels nearby. The stairway had no lights and was hard to climb with luggage. There was no hot water in the old shower and bathroom, and breakfast was just okay.

The food was the standout for me. They have a tiny menu written on a scrap of paper, but the home cooking is the kind that used to be common in France and is now almost impossible to find. The rabbit with prunes was spectacular. It was a big contrast with the tourist trap restaurants in st jean, where the staff were surly. I can't wait to return. The hotel itself is fantastic, with a brilliant location, comfortable rooms at reasonable prices, and free parking opposite. The owners and staff were very friendly. It's a great place for the Camino.

The hired staff provided excellent service, but I wasn't impressed by the room or the meals. The owner seemed to have his own agenda and a big mortgage to pay, so prices may change. Be aware.
