La Maison du Gasseau

We'd looked forward to a hot Sunday lunch followed by a walk around the grounds, but what we found was a buffet brunch and a really disappointing meal. There was no service, and nobody cleared our plates. Cold leftover pie had been pushed onto a fresh, lukewarm pie. It looked disgusting, like scraps left in the dish. Hotel guests' breakfast was still on the table, which was far too small, and electric cables across the floor were a trip hazard. The housekeeper even walked through the restaurant carrying a basket overflowing with dirty laundry. The trout was hard and dry, impossible to eat. The bread was dry too, the pork was mostly fat, and there were no vegetables or potatoes. Soup was sloppy and warm. Coffee and tea were in flasks left over from breakfast. We got no change from €100. Utter rubbish and a rip-off.

We stayed the night and had a first-class experience from start to finish. The food was amazing, the staff were great, and the setting was beautiful.

This is only about the restaurant. We were a group of 10 for lunch, and we all enjoyed the food, the wines, and the terrace. The service was friendly and efficient, and we had a very nice experience.

We had a mixed stay in the family apartment for two nights. The setting near the river Sarte is beautiful, with a little center and several nice local restaurants within walking distance. A picnic by the river is lovely. The apartment is spacious and the bathroom is large, but water pressure is very low. The sheets were nice, while the mattresses felt poor quality. Nobody cleaned between our two nights. At 240,- a night, I'd expect the room to be cleaned or at least the beds made. Breakfast had nice local products, but the coffee was bad. Staff spoke little English, and we had a bad experience with the hotel manager. We were allowed to charge our car in the garage when we arrived, but the next day she knocked on our door while our baby was asleep. I answered in my underwear, and she started yelling that I had to move the car right away because a concert was starting. Very impolite and rude. There was no coffee-making setup, kettle, or fridge in the room either. We wouldn't come back.
