Hotel Eden

The staff were very friendly, and breakfast was plentiful. Even so, I won't stay here again, though we visit St Malo regularly. We could bring our small dog, but felt we'd been given the smallest, tatty room, despite paying extra for the dog. The walls were badly scuffed and marked, the furniture was old, and the bathroom wasn't much better, with a loose toilet seat. Most dog owners respect their surroundings and still hope for decent standards. We felt treated like second-class citizens, and the room quality was far too low for the price.

We didn't have breakfast, so I can't comment on it. The hotel has old, small facilities and no lift, but a nice garden. It's in a quiet spot near the beach, though there aren't many restaurants nearby. The lively intra muros centre is within walking distance. For me, it doesn't merit a 3-star rating, but it's a good option if you understand the pros and cons.

The room was clean and the price was good. We liked the neighborhood and being close to the beach, and the staff were friendly and polite. But it's 3-4 km from the center. Over our three-day stay, the thin walls and noise from other guests made it extremely loud, and we slept badly. The doors made too much noise when opening and closing; a card system instead of keys might help. There was nowhere to put clothes, so ours stayed in our suitcases. Breakfast was expensive for the little variety on offer, and could be improved or made cheaper.

The scallops with chorizo were a real treat, tender enough to melt on my tongue, and the little lemon sauce was just right. The staff were lovely and so kind, even though we arrived only 30 minutes before the kitchen closed.
