The staff member at the entrance was helpful enough, but very cold. The room was old and not especially clean, and the building felt old and unwelcoming too. Beds weren't made, and there are various possible extra charges, for example if you leave the kitchen uncleaned or don't take out the rubbish. Parking costs extra and apparently has to be booked ahead. It was okay for basic accommodation, but expensive for what it is.

After a five-hour drive from Calais, we got there at 4:30pm, half an hour after the already very late 4pm check-in, and were told our room still wasn't ready. Check-out is at 11am, so I don't understand why it wasn't ready by then. We had to wait another 50 minutes. When we finally got in, there was only a sofa bed and some sheets piled on a chair. We still had to unfold the sofa and make the bed ourselves, which is the last thing you want after a long drive. What took so long to get the room ready? It's disgraceful that guests have to make their own bed. They require a deposit, like hotels generally do, but don't accept American Express. It also took four days for the money to come back to my account, far too long. Before leaving, we were told to strip the bed and clean nearly everything in the room. That's hotel work that should be done for guests. Parking costs 10 euros per night on top of the room price. This feels like a low-budget hostel, and I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you have no other choice. Park on the street and don't give them more money for practically no work.

The room was clean, and the location close to the old town was a good point. I was in Saint-Malo for work, and my company paid for the room. There were several problems. Reception isn't open around the clock, and although I arrived at 3:30 PM, check-in wasn't until 4:00 PM. The front door was locked and needed a code I would only get at check-in, so I was lucky a guest let me into the lobby to wait. At check-in, they still asked me for a 200-euro deposit in case I damaged something, even though the company had paid. They said it would be returned right after checkout, but it took two days and only came back after someone from my company repeatedly called about it. I was also told to clean the kitchen, strip the bed linens, and take out the trash before leaving. Why pay for a room if guests have to do the maids' work? The room was a small space with a table, chairs, a kitchen, and a sofa bed. The main bed was a bunk bed right beside the entrance. Soundproofing was terrible, and I could hear the neighbors talking. I strongly wouldn't recommend this unless you're looking for a very budget option.

Helpful staff, a good location, and parking made this just what we needed for catching the morning ferry back to the UK.
