I’m reviewing the bar downstairs, not the hotel. It’s the best beer bar we’ve found in St Malo, with more than 50 local beers, including Philomenn, Merlin, and Ouache’s brewery, whose name I’ve forgotten. Thomas, the owner, is passionate about what he serves.

We came back more than once during our trip to Saint Malo. The beer list had loads of interesting seasonal options, including mango basil gose and a dark saison, c'est tres bon. It was quiet and relaxed, and the barman was great.

I only went to the bar, not the hotel. The beer choices keep changing, and there’s a great range. It’s a good spot to try rare and unusual drinks.

The bar is a small, comfy pub. I liked the little curbside seating area with a few tables where you can have a drink outside.
