Maison d'Hôtes Cap et Marais d'Opale

We stayed one night while visiting Saint Omer and would definitely return. The host was friendly and made us feel welcome, and breakfast included lovely homemade yoghurts and jams along with croissants and bread. The beautiful building has stunning rooms with high ceilings and lovely furnishings. It felt like we were staying in France, not in a hotel that could have been anywhere in the world. It’s about a ten-minute walk into town, and parking is free.

This lovely old town house offers B&B, with a huge bedroom and twelve-foot ceilings. There’s a fridge and microwave as well as an en suite, so you can cater for yourself if you don’t fancy one of the many town restaurants. Breakfast is fresh croissants and French stick with the hostess’s homemade yogurt and jams. You can add the jam to the yogurt or spread it on the bread. Don’t expect a fry-up.

We enjoyed two nights here, and it’s probably a ten-minute walk to the town centre, where there are lots of bars and restaurants. The B&B hosts are welcoming and lovely, and breakfast was very good: homemade yoghurt, rhubarb cake one morning, lovely jams, croissants and bread with gourmet butter. I’ve been staying at d'hotes Cap every few months for several years while visiting the local university as a teacher, and it’s always a pleasant stay. The rooms have a classic French feel and are consistently clean and cosy. The owner is very welcoming and serves breakfast at a time that suits you, including delicious homemade yoghurt. I highly recommend it!
