Auberge Basque

We loved the Michelin restaurant, especially the desserts. A few dishes felt a little too unusual for us, and we didn’t quite grasp them, but the atmosphere and service were great. The view was nice, too.

The garden is spectacular, especially at lunchtime, and the meal felt like more than the five courses listed once you include the amuse bouche and the extra dessert with my coffee. My partner, who’s French, and I, an Aussie, both loved it. The tuna was my favourite, though the oyster dish was superb too. The waiter spoke perfect English for me, and they handled my gluten intolerance perfectly. The menu had such complex flavours and originality that I think it deserves more than one Michelin star, while still keeping the true Basque spirit with a modern touch of sophistication and class. Service was great, too.

We loved the restaurant: the atmosphere was delightful, and the Basque products were cooked really well. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared. A must go. We stayed four nights, which felt like too long in those conditions. The room was quite small, there was no working internet, and the outdoor pool was closed during our rainy stay. I’d recommend staying one or two nights, but probably no longer.

The food was delicious, with a surprise in every dish, and the wine suggestions were great. The atmosphere was lovely, the staff were kind, and the decor felt really comforting and elegant. I’d recommend it to anyone.
