Camping Le Jardin De Sully

We came back to Jardin du Sully for a second stay and loved it again. It’s a small campsite, but there’s plenty to do: free tennis, mini golf and football, with equipment available at reception. The pool setup is simple, with a little toddler pool and slide alongside a larger one, and it works really well. Best of all, the staff are the friendliest campsite owners we’ve ever met. Lovely spot by the Loire, and we’d happily recommend it.

If you’re cycling, this is a great base, with loads of cycling roads nearby and even a cycling museum in Sully, as well as the big castle. I’ve stayed at more than 120 campings and pitches in my life, and this one is in my top three, one of the best by the Loireriver. The place has a nice-sized mix of small and large pitches, which I prefer to those huge campings. The staff are extremely welcoming and professional, the toilets and showers are super clean, and the washing machines are a real highlight. There’s mini golf, tennis, a soccertent, you name it, plus a nice pool area with a bar. Supermarkets and restaurants are very close too.

The river setting is lovely, and we enjoyed a walk into Sully after setting up. There were a few bars and restaurants open, and the town had a nice feel. We were happy with this stopover on our way south, especially since there weren’t many sites open for caravans. We arrived at 1:30, during the 1 to 4 pm closure, but a staff member spotted us walking toward the river, asked if we needed to check in, and kindly opened up for us. Since it was quiet, we could pick a pitch. The shower and toilet block is small, though some of it is heated, which is great in winter.

The best part is how close the site is to the Loire and to a footpath into town. It’s lovely for an afternoon wander, though I wouldn’t stay longer just for that. It’s on the loire cycle path, so cycling could be a good reason to spend more time here. The location also works well for Dieppe, Caen and Le Havre, and isn’t bad for Calais. We’ll probably come back. We visited in December, so the weather may have coloured my impression. We’d booked through CAMC and arrived at 1 pm to find reception wouldn’t open until 4. A lovely woman checked us in after a few minutes and let us choose a pitch, suggesting one near the toilet block. The pitches are level but not really hard standing, and there’s no demarcation. We’d booked a serviced pitch, but the water there had been turned off, so we filled our tank on arrival. The showers and other facilities were clean and warm, but unisex, which I’m not comfortable with. Nothing was open, and even with the maintenance team busy, the place felt a bit shabby.
