Domaine de Garabaud

The grounds are lovely and the building looks great from outside, with plenty of parking. Our room was old and poorly maintained, though, and the shampoo bottle was empty. The AC was hard to control. We did sleep well.

A pleasant country place, and the people there were nice. The AC isn't very effective, so I wouldn't stay in summer. Also, taxis in the region are either unavailable or very expensive if you're heading into town or nearby towns. I liked the staff; they were great.

We found this place when our planned “mini” college reunion grew from a gathering for our home to 40, then 55 guests. They were a dream to work with, making housing, activities, and meals for 55 Americans far easier to organize than it could have been. Everyone went above and beyond, and our guests gave Garabaud and its staff top marks. It's a comfortable, moderately priced hotel with no frills. The rooms are comfortable, though not luxurious, and the pool, tennis court, restaurant, and gathering rooms work well for visits of any size. Now reopened after confinement, and better than ever.

The staff at Garabaud are warm, helpful, and know their stuff. The Domaine de Garabaud serves as both a hotel and a local lunch spot, with a restaurant offering a great three-course lunch Monday through Friday for 13 euros, or two courses for 11 euros. The hotel has had a full makeover, including the conference space, and for a two-star hotel it's right at the top of its range and good value. Just outside Mazères, within walking distance, it sits between town and the bird sanctuary, among trees and fields with mountain views. There are a pool, tennis courts, bikes, and all kinds of sports equipment; you can store your own bike too. Walking and biking trails surround the property, and the hotel is accessible to people with disabilities. Rooms come as singles, doubles, doubles with a mezzanine, and four-person family rooms. I highly recommend it!
