Hôtel du Soleil & Spa

The hotel was clean, with soft beds and pillows, dependable A/C, and tea and coffee in the rooms. For my birthday, they arranged to have flowers waiting, which was a lovely gesture. We also enjoyed a soothing 45-minute massage that felt like good value. The breakfast was varied and good, served in a large breakfast room, and there’s a big pool. St Remy is beautiful, and the hotel is just a stone’s throw from a lovely little town with plenty of places for food and coffee. Sleep was the problem. Noise carried so much that even a chair moving could be heard. Every night I woke to guests banging doors or talking, and housekeeping cleaning rooms around 8am. Better soundproofing would help. The toilet couldn’t flush tissue paper and gurgled whenever it was used, leaving a funky smell. Parking was a nightmare on some evenings when the lot filled up, with what seemed like only big cars in Provence. We did manage after several tries.

The rooms were clean and fine, and the massage I had was genuinely good. The location was great. But staying here for my brother’s wedding with family and friends felt joyless from the beginning. Staff seemed annoyed with us even when we were just talking or asking basic questions, and the other guests were very unfriendly. The whole atmosphere felt miserable, more like a silent retreat than a hotel, and not in a good way. It was a strange letdown for what should have been a happy occasion. I’d suggest management think carefully before taking a booking where one family rents six rooms, or at least call to explain that the hotel may not suit a group of couples, relatives, and friends who all know each other. It seems best for people who speak French and want quiet, with little interest in having fun.

The rooms were just right, and the town center is close by. The staff were lovely and glad to help.

It’s been years since I stayed somewhere this comfortable and well situated. The room was lovely, the bed was super comfortable, and having a pool to cool off in after a day of exploring was great. Lovely restaurants are just minutes away. Brilliant!
