Chateau de Roussan

The location and gardens are excellent, with a fabulous natural pool and stunning plane trees. The rooms are spacious, but shabby rather than chic, basic, and not luxurious. The bathroom was dismal but functional, and the whole place feels dilapidated. It badly needs investment to justify the room prices. Dinner was just as disappointing. There were only two choices per course, so it would be impossible to eat there twice. The trout was raw on one side and overcooked on the other; the pork was dry and overcooked, and dessert was a mushy mess. We waited 30 minutes before we could ask for a drink. The staff were pleasant but very amateur. We’d planned to stay two nights, but one was enough. From the other reviews, management seems to be in denial. Such a shame, because the place could be stunning.

The rooms and bathrooms are large and clean, and it’s a nice place compared with the hotels in St Remy. The bathtub is quite high, which made it difficult for me to get into as a senior. I wouldn’t recommend breakfast or dinner here. The restaurant staff in particular weren’t very helpful, especially given what breakfast cost. Still, it’s a lovely place to stay overall.

The restaurant is a real highlight, with amazing Provençal fusion food on this side of the Mediterranean. The stay itself made for an unforgettable memory. It's one of the best places to stay in the South of France, though it's a little outside St Remy and the entrance can be hard to spot after dark.

The historical details inside the house really stood out to me, and we had a rattling time. The house, garden, room, and restaurant were all lovely, and the staff were friendly. It was one of the best impressions of my trip. Thank you for everything!
