Design Hotel des Francs Garçons

The bed in our room, L'Herve, was very comfortable, and we enjoyed the dinner, though we felt it cost a bit much for what was served. There was a good choice of wines. Our one-night stay for two came to 316.40€, including the suite, dinner and wine, two drinks, breakfast, and taxes. The old building in Saint-Sauvant was cleverly converted into a design hotel and opened in 2006. Its many levels and stairs make good use of the space, but they were a problem for me and could be difficult for some guests. The place is beginning to show its age and needs some care to bring its original ideas back to life. The exterior sign is peeling, some things look worn, and the designer furnishings feel dated, though a little imagination and spending could update them. The air-conditioning in our room was an issue and concerned us, and some furniture and fittings weren't what we'd expected. Would I stay again? No, that's our choice. The hotel gets good reviews, but perhaps our taste and designer's eye are different. Former Head of Design, V&A Museum London.
