Pratic Hotel

Cafés and restaurants surround the Pratic hotel, and I’d happily stay here again. The bed was comfortable, the room temperature was just right, and though the room was small, it was clean. I’m there for the bed, so I didn’t mind the limited space. The first room had a good bathroom; in the second, the shower took up the whole bathroom, which was a bit annoying but not a major issue. My booked room wasn’t available when I arrived, so I spent one night in another room. The staff moved my things while I was out exploring, which was nice. The first room was on the fifth floor with a brilliant courtyard view. The second was on the second floor, meaning fewer stairs but a bit more noise at night. There are only stairs, which suits me. I had a large suitcase and managed fine. I also liked handing in the key whenever I went out. Some people say that’s bad, but it meant I didn’t have to worry about losing it in the busy streets. I’d speak with the office manager twice a day, and they’d ask how my day had gone, which was lovely. I later noticed that my booking included continental breakfast, though I hadn’t known about it during my stay.

The staff were really friendly, and the location was nice, close to Bastille and Jean Paul station. We walked to Notre Dame in about 15 minutes. Breakfast was continental, cost Eur 10, and was decent for the price. The rooms were clean, modern, and comfortable, but very small. We were on the fourth floor of a six-floor building with no elevator, which was a struggle. The AC only blows air and doesn’t cool. We had a good stay, but I wouldn’t stay here again because of the stairs.

The location is good, and our room was small but clean and comfortable. Still, this hotel is probably better for young, fit guests. We were on the sixth floor, and hauling luggage up there during a 40-degree heatwave was exhausting. There’s no elevator. We had to leave our key at reception whenever we went out, and after midnight we had to ring the doorbell to get back in. There was some noise from the street and hallway. It was an okay stay, about what you’d expect for the price.

Our room had a little fridge and kettle, and the bathroom looked recently renovated, with a bright, modern feel. The room itself was very small, but you’re in Paris to get out and explore. The neighborhood has plenty to see, and the Saint Paul metro stop is very close. From there you can get almost anywhere, including the Louvre in just a few stops. There’s a small plaza across the street with a bar and a few restaurants, plus lots more nearby. A note if you’re choosing somewhere to eat: restaurants have to serve food with alcohol, while bars don’t, and some bars have no food at all. Ask if you’re unsure. Most shops and restaurants in the neighborhood knew enough English for us to get by. Some restaurants may have a minimum purchase, as we found at one along the Seine. For Pokemon Go players, there’s one gym and six stops within reach of the hotel. Most local players seem to be blue, so if you’re red or yellow, you’ll have to take down gyms to get in.
