Domaine des Monges - Chambres d'hotes

Breakfast was one of the best parts of our stay at Domaine des Monges: homemade preserves, eggs from their chickens and honey from their bee hives, all served with care on gorgeous Bordeaux tableware. We stayed in the bright Eugénie room, with fresh flowers, lovely decor and so many little details that it felt like a Vogue Living France feature. Serge and Peter made us feel at home right away. They’re warm, thoughtful hosts with great local knowledge, and we were grateful for their suggestions for our upcoming wedding nearby. The place is so dreamy that we half-joked about asking to move in. It had us thinking about leaving our responsibilities behind and settling in the Dordogne for good. We were in the area for a wedding and stayed at the beautiful Domaine des Monges. Peter and Serge were so welcoming and kind, making sure we had everything we needed. They even helped arrange a lovely wine tasting at the nearby vineyard, Chateaux de Fayolle, which we highly recommend. The house is right by the Dordogne river, and the setting is impressive. There are some really nice local walks and drives, and the rooms are comfortable. Breakfast was perfect. We’d love to return with friends for a long weekend and explore more of the area.

Serge and Peter were such friendly, dedicated hosts, and worked hard to make the guests feel at home together. Breakfast was delicious, with fresh food, and they could provide high-quality gluten-free bread or meet other needs when asked. Our two-person lodge had far more space than we needed, which made the stay more enjoyable. We were there for just three nights, but the apartment had everything for a longer visit. It was beautifully decorated, as was the private yard with its outdoor furniture. The domaine also has a lovely, well-kept garden, a pool and an open space by the riverbank. For the price, it’s hard to find a place offering so much. It’s great for relaxing and there are lots of nearby sights to see. We’d definitely come back if we can!

Serge and Peter were happy to answer questions, give advice about local amenities and help book a restaurant. The room was spacious and stylish, with a superb en-suite bathroom and shower. The house and its setting are beautiful, and breakfast is served from 8.00 to 10.00am. I can’t recommend this place highly enough.
