Our suite was spacious, spotless, and beautiful, and breakfast brought fruit, yogurt, juice, tea, croissants, and bread, with fresh eggs cooked to order from the hen house if we wanted. The dining room felt grand but still warm, and the grounds were lovely to walk through while imagining all the history tied to them. Carla welcomed us so warmly that we felt like family rather than paying guests. She took care of all our needs, including booking restaurant tables and winery tours, and even shared dinner and wine with us on the terrace one relaxing evening. We liked her so much that we invited her to visit us in Florida. We've never done that before, which says a lot. The drive up to Chateau Lamothe sets the scene. This former hunting lodge looks almost like a castle, with a beautiful moat and swans, and the carefully restored building has a remarkable old-world grandeur. We hope to return, and hope others enjoy it as much as we did.

The owners went out of their way to make us comfortable, and breakfast was sublime, with homemade pastries and jams. Our two young kids loved it too. There's a secure, gated garden in front of the chateau where they can play, and the pool is great for splashing around. The rooms are huge, beautifully decorated, and perfectly clean. Driving up the long driveway toward the chateau and its moat feels like entering a fairy tale. I've travelled all over the world, but this place impressed me more than most. It's close to Bordeaux city centre and the airport, yet feels like another world, a little bit of heaven.

The mother and daughter who run Château Lamothe made us feel like family. They arranged a wine tour, booked dinner for us, and served a superb breakfast. They're also fluent in French and English. The Château has a lovely sense of history and romance, and the family made our stay so enjoyable. For a real wine-country feel near Bordeaux, with such warm hospitality, Lamothe won't disappoint.

You’ll need your own transport because of the location, but it’s a wonderful spot for a few days in the beautiful countryside. The building and setting are incredible, and the staff are caring and helpful. I’d thoroughly recommend it.

The gardens are beautiful, and the location is amazing.
