Camping La Brise

We nearly skipped this campsite after reading the reviews, but I’m glad we gave it a chance. Our shower block was clean and modern, and the laundry room had hot water for hand-washing. It’s close to town, bars, and restaurants, and we could easily cycle from there into the Camargue National Park to watch birds. The beach gate shuts at 8pm, though you can walk around to reception after that. There’s a lovely pool with a separate kids’ area and slide. We didn’t try the bar or café. It’s a little pricey, but there are plenty of benefits. And if mosquitoes bother you, remember the Camargue is a wetland, and the South of France comes with bugs.

I don’t plan on coming back. The shower locks were broken, there was no hot water, and the washing-up area felt old, with cracked sinks and barely lukewarm water. They say the toilets and showers are cleaned three times a day, but I’m pretty sure they weren’t even cleaned daily. Dog mess was all over the campsite, despite poo bag dispensers being dotted around. I saw two rats run across the path towards the snack and pool area on our first night; when I pointed them out to an employee, he just shrugged. And €1.90 for a baguette! Probably the worst three-star campsite I’ve stayed at.

We paid €40 for what was meant to be a one-night stay, although the price was €37. The receptionist had no change, so we let him keep the extra. We were told the beach, pool, bathrooms, and showers were available, but when we went to use them, everything was shut. Even both toilets in our camping area, for pee and poop, were closed. At reception we were told that these facilities close after 7 PM and that we’d have to walk farther to find an open bathroom. Nobody had mentioned that earlier. We left after an hour, but the receptionist refused to refund us and wouldn’t discuss it. We felt misled, overcharged, and unfairly treated. There was no basic transparency or service here. Definitely not recommended.

We were camping, so the rooms and service didn’t really apply to us. It’s a good site in the wonderful Camargue, with easy access to town and to the sights of this special part of France.
