The museum visit was a highlight, especially with the owner’s genuine enthusiasm. We also enjoyed two nights in the traditional Sologne-style house, tucked on a quiet street close to the center of town. Breakfast, with its homemade items, was good. We’d be happy to come back to Salbris.

We had a miserable night in the smaller room the owner offered after saying a computer glitch had left our booked room occupied. He said it was a little cheaper, but didn't tell us there was no window. With daytime temperatures at 40°C, a fan wasn't enough. When we raised it the next morning, he told us, "You should have opened your front door!" We won't ever stay at this guesthouse again.

A nightmare on a Friday night. After 7 pm there was no way into the gîte, everything was shut, and nobody picked up the phone or replied to emails. I had to find somewhere else to stay, even though I’d paid for two rooms I never got to sleep in. Unbelievable.

The woman running the tea room next door made us a simple, really tasty dinner that evening. We were welcomed very warmly.

There was a separate spot with two beds for the children, alongside our master bedroom and the living and dining room. The decor throughout was in very good taste.
