Hotel Restaurant de la Tour

The staff made us feel very welcome, and dinner in the beautiful restaurant was outstanding, even though it was fully booked on Bastille Day. Our spotless triple room on the third floor was spacious and clearly well cared for. We loved the magnificent views and the charming town, with few foreign tourists and lots of French holidaymakers. Taking a day trip to Embiez was easy and brought more lovely views and local charm. Well worth doing. Don't let the two-star rating put you off. In France, the rating reflects amenities or services, not necessarily quality. For example, there's no lift. We were on the third floor and managed fine, but ask for a lower floor if that worries you. It's not the Ritz, but for me it felt like a five-star experience and made for an authentic French getaway. We'll be back.

We loved our stay in this family run hotel, especially how wonderfully friendly the staff were. The rooms aren't luxurious, but they're fine for a 2** hotel. There's no lift, which could be a problem for older guests. The dinner menu was fabulous, particularly if you like fruit de mere, though I was a little disappointed with the seasoning on the main fish dish.

Sanary sur mer has won us over. There's a beautiful beach beside the port, plus excursions, fish markets, and lots of great shops and bars. The Wednesday market is wonderful, with so many goodies. From the station you can take a bus or taxi to the hotel, or walk for 20 minutes. We had an amazingly clean room and a perfect view over the port at Christmas. The restaurant is a must, exceptional, and it's no surprise it's won so many awards. The staff are friendly and very professional. I'm baffled this hotel has only 2**. Perhaps it's the lack of a lift or the continental breakfast, but it deserves more stars.

The restaurant is beautifully decorated, but the meal was a huge disappointment. I ordered the médaillon de lotte and found it completely bland. I spent two minutes adding salt and pepper to try to make the fish and sauce taste of something. The vegetables seemed randomly chosen and didn't go together, like roasted tomatoes with fish. My husband had the ‘gambas risotto’. The waiter said the shrimp came peeled, and we can see why. It tasted stale, smelled off and was mushy, as if it had been sitting around for days or had been frozen. I can't understand how a seafood Michelin star restaurant could serve old or frozen shrimp. We stumbled on what appeared to be a Michelin star seafood restaurant and had high expectations. The bill was incredibly expensive, and we left disappointed with food that satisfied none of our tastebuds. Try a neighbouring restaurant instead for better food at lower prices. At best, this is a mediocre tourist trap.
