Beauval Chambre

The location is really the only good thing about this place. It’s a house split into several rooms, with bathrooms under the eaves and no air conditioning. The bedding wasn’t good, towels cost extra, there’s no parking, and breakfast was industrial. For what they offer, €140 a night in Saint-Aignan is an outrageous price. For comparison, we’d just come from a fully equipped 100m2 AirBnb in Montpellier that cost €110 a night. If you’re going to Beauval, my advice is to sleep somewhere else.

The room was very clean, and the host did respond to requests. Breakfast was decent, too. But the room, including the bathroom, was only 15-16 degrees Celsius, with no way to warm it up much. The welcome was fine but rather brief, without much of the family feel you’d expect from a bed and breakfast, and we weren’t given much information about local attractions. The location is perfect for visiting Beauval Zoo.

The only small downside is that some rooms share a bathroom. There’s no pool at the guesthouse, though there are swimming spots nearby. Otherwise, the place feels very welcoming, with lots of space, good furnishings, and impeccable cleanliness. The communal dining service should suit many guests, and the house is close to Beauval Zoo and several castles. The owners are a charming couple, and I’d encourage you to meet them.

The room was perfect, and breakfast was very good. But before my stay I asked to see the meal menu, which said everything was homemade. Then I got a pizza made with supermarket roll-out dough, and I could barely find the mushrooms on top. I’m not saying it tasted awful, but calling it homemade when it was like the pizzas I make at home, or better, and charging €13!!! 😡
