Hôtel de l'Illwald

We were four people on a cycling holiday in Alsace and had booked lunch at this "Auberge". The food was okay, but expensive for its quality. The restaurant is by a very noisy main road, so eating outside isn't possible. We could only have our apero outside after insisting. The host was the rudest and most disrespectful person I've encountered in a restaurant. He barely spoke to us, put our plates down without explaining anything, and never asked if everything was okay, though he chatted pleasantly with local diners. The owners replied that they couldn't understand how the server could have been unpleasant if he hadn't said anything, and defended the food's quality because they have regulars. They said we should have raised concerns during the meal so they could address them. I still think a meal out is about more than serving food. Communication and making guests feel welcome matter too. Even though the food was good, the experience was very disappointing.

We only stopped for lunch, but the place was gorgeous and quaint, and the restaurant was so pretty. The food was delicious. The best escargots we've tried, and we loved the foie gras, entrecôte, and pretty much everything.

The location worked well for us, between Colmar and Strasbourg and close to an interesting castle. We stayed at a lovely, cozy, comfortable little hotel with attentive staff and a beautiful garden, plus a cute dog. Breakfast was great, with homemade yoghurt and jams, fresh juice choices, and delicious fresh bread. We missed it on our first morning and regretted that. We also had dinner at the attractive restaurant. The meat was cooked perfectly, and the staff took good care of us. Definitely a great small hotel to stay in.

We stayed for two nights at this gorgeous family-run villa turned hotel. The people managing it were lovely, and there were two really friendly dogs. Breakfast had a lovely provincial feel. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed while the staff were on leave, so we had to drive to Sélestat for supper.
