My wife and I had a superb lunch at this restaurant in the lovely town of Senonches after someone recommended it to us. It’s an unpretentious place that doesn’t look special from the outside, but the food is exquisite and the prices don’t suggest how good it is. The patronne (maître d'hôtel) gave us a warm welcome that set the tone. We’ll certainly return next time we’re nearby, and I’m very happy to recommend it.

We’ve stopped here several times while heading south to Angouleme. The rooms are good, but the food is what stands out: it’s the best I’ve had anywhere in France, and excellent value for money. Simply superb.

Dinner was outstanding, high quality, and thoroughly enjoyable. Our hotel room was good too, with no problems there. Breakfast was another matter: the supervisor in the breakfast room had the authority of a feldgendarme, and we didn’t feel at ease. We also had to eat with wooden knives and spoons, which was awkward when trying to eat a boiled egg. I’d gladly return for dinner, but after that breakfast experience, no thanks.

Lovely hosts who speak English, very good food, and very good staff. Lovely again.

Not too bad, just overpriced.
