La Planque des Marmottes

I wouldn't recommend staying somewhere with owners I consider dishonest. On September 5, 2025, I accidentally booked a room for September 7 instead of September 6. I noticed two hours later and called the hostel to ask whether I could move the booking forward by a day or cancel it. The person who answered said the hostel was full on the 6th and that they would check with Booking.com about whether cancellation was possible. Booking.com said they'd sent a cancellation request, so from their side, canceling was fine. Later, the hostel messaged me to say I couldn't cancel because it was a "last minute" request. Is 48 hours ahead really last minute? Paying full price for nothing isn't a disaster, but I'm furious that the money went to people I consider dishonest.

The apartment is small but comfortable, with one bedroom and a large closet, a bathroom with a shower and toilet, and a little kitchen. It was fully equipped, including a fondue set 🙂, and sits in a quiet spot with a magnificent view of Mont Blanc. The bedding was comfortable, and having access to the garden for outdoor meals was a real pleasure. The owners were very friendly and welcoming, and a parking space was provided. A large cooking knife might be a useful addition. I also thought it was a shame that the bed was made from two mattresses pushed together.

The setting is sublime, with an extraordinary location. There's a very beautiful lake about an hour's walk away, and Chamonix is 15 minutes by car. Several very good restaurants are within a 10-minute drive. The chalet is simple but very clean and has everything you need for a good time.

We've stayed in this cosy studio for the second time. It's quiet and has a typically Savoyard feel. There are some lovely walks starting right from the chalet. The owners are really nice and available, and you can book sports activities through them.
