Manoir de la Saone

When I arrived, I was told we needed to leave before 9:30 am because the host had commitments and didn’t want us lingering. Breakfast cost €10 and was disappointing, with one coffee, multivitamin juice, two slices of Pasquier chocolate brioche, a store-brand fruit yogurt with no choice of flavor, one roll per person, a fruit paste in plastic wrap, and a Golden Delicious apple. It hardly felt homemade. I had wanted one triple room for my wife, my 21-year-old son, and me, with a double bed and sofa bed. I was told the sofa bed was only for children, so I had to book a second adjoining room with a shared bathroom and pay for two rooms, while the sofa bed stayed unused. The total was €210, payable in cash, which the host preferred and told me about on the phone. It felt like we were there to have our bank accounts milked dry.

The mattress was comfortable, not hard like you sometimes get in places. The style was old-fashioned, and the spot by the Saône was lovely.

The place is right across from the canal, and that location is the only good thing about it. Everything else is run-down, the mattress is bad, and breakfast is expensive and terrible. The owner was unfriendly. After a month of traveling, this was by far our worst stay.

The Saône view is sublime, and the setting is so pleasant and peaceful. The decor feels authentic, and the host is friendly and accommodating. I recommend it without hesitation.
