We’ve stayed in hotels every night while traveling around Europe this past month, and nowhere else have we felt so unwelcome. We tried speaking French, but the owners seemed unwilling to communicate with us in either French or English. It felt as though they knew we were American and thought they could take advantage of us. My reviews of the other hotels have all been positive, and I can see why we were the only guests that night. Maybe others have felt this way too. Breakfast was another problem. We were first told it would cost €15 total, but it turned out to be €15 per person for croissants, coffee, and juice. We asked for eggs, then found we’d been charged another €10 without being told, making it €40 for a very modest breakfast. When I told the owner that didn’t seem fair, he just kept saying “sorry” and hurried us along. Later, people we spoke to in the Faverges community said it was possible the owners thought they could take advantage of us because we were American. That isn’t fair, though there are people like that in the world.

After generations of dedication, the people behind this place are finally heading toward retirement. They deserve my deepest respect and my thanks for all those years of work. I hope they have a wonderful retirement, though it’s sad to think indifferent, tasteless investors may take over once they hand on the reins. The restaurant itself is a rare traditional place these days: we were warmly welcomed, had a comfortable linen-covered table, and received professional service. The food was fine and delicious, and the wine list was remarkable. Expect to spend around €100 per person, even with the 48% mandatory government tax. In the industry, you’d call it a top-notch establishment. Sincerely, Cyril.

We were 11 adults, and everyone was pleased with the delicious gourmet family meal. The decor was top-notch, and the original flavors really delighted us. We only came for dinner and didn’t stay overnight. Thanks for the warm welcome too. We might come back next year.

We only ate here. I wasn’t keen on the dishes I ordered, though my friends really enjoyed their meal.

My lunch was exceptional, with a chef whose cooking showed real taste and talent. His wife handled the service with care and skill. A place food lovers should visit.
