Le Vieux Couvent

We’re already looking forward to coming back next year. This was our third stay at Le Vieux Couvent, owned by the delightful couple Christian and Marguerite Rozec. The former convent has been modernised but still has its old-world charm, with stone walls, lots of timber, and many lovely paintings by Marguerite, who is an accomplished artist. Our room was pleasantly decorated and furnished and always in good condition. The spotless shower room had everything a bathroom could need, all excellent quality. Christian speaks good English, and his offer to book restaurants for us before we arrived was a real bonus. There’s on-street parking just outside the property’s lovely walled garden, which has a peaceful seating area. Breakfast was a gastronomic delight, served farmhouse-style at a large, beautifully laid table in the kitchen, with the food set out and prepared. It varied daily and included several kinds of bread, cheese, fresh fruit salad, freshly squeezed orange juice, cake, crepes, Breton fars (our favourite), and around eight or nine preserves. Coffee and a range of teas were available, and on several mornings we were offered a tasty cooked breakfast. When other guests were there, the atmosphere was very convivial. And we shouldn’t forget Oscar, the little resident dog, enthusiastic about life and a friend to all. We can’t recommend the place and its owners highly enough.
