Motel 25

There was hardly anyone around when we arrived. It took a while to be buzzed into the car park, and the receptionist seemed surprised to see customers. One of the two EV charging bays was blocked by a portacabin. A key was already sitting in the quick checkout pile, which was still there when we left, alongside ours. We didn't see anyone at checkout either. The corridors had eerie green lighting, which made the hotel's quiet, empty feel even stronger. Our room was spacious and modern, but had an unfinished feel: some filled cracks hadn't been painted, and a hole at the back of the wardrobe opened into a small unfinished space beneath the shower seat. The blue shower lights flickered, the table lamp was broken, and the other room lights were harsh, bright, and cool. The external powered shutters could be lowered to block out light and add security against the hordes. We skipped breakfast. A few places had been set in the large breakfast room, but otherwise it was empty or being used for storage.
