Camping La Montagne

For a night in a tent before heading onward, this place worked well. The owners are friendly, and they helped us order a great pizza since there's no restaurant, just drinks. The pool is pleasant but small, and the washrooms are basic, clean, and fine. There are lots of caravans and cabins, so I'd choose one of those for a longer stay rather than a tent. You can hear the nearby highway from a tent, though it wasn't loud enough to keep us awake; it may be less noticeable in a caravan or cabin. There were some mosquitoes, but not too many when we visited in August 2021.

We really enjoyed our stay and would happily come back. The site is well placed for exploring the area, and even in the chilly mornings and evenings the heated shower and toilet block was a real help. We arrived at the start of March, so the bar and pool were closed, though they looked lovely. On arrival, we got a friendly welcome and a clear explanation of the facilities.

There are lots of trees around, with a forest right next to the campground, and the free Wi-Fi worked well. We were stopping overnight on our way to Spain, and it's a good fit for that. The highway is nearby and audible, but not very loud. The sanitary block was clean, although there were no toilet seats or soap, and the shower was lukewarm with weak water pressure. Dogs are allowed, there are plenty of bins, and card payment is accepted. We'd stop here again for one night on the way back.

The women's main toilet and shower block was locked and out of order, and there wasn't even toilet paper supplied. We paid far too much for a poor pitch. After checking the website later, I saw they'd charged us more than twice the advertised pitch rate for two people, a tent, and a car. They shouldn't be dishonest, and we should have checked first.
