Chateau De Pourtales

I love this place, but check where your room is before planning your stay. There are several room types, and some are outside the Chateau. For a more immersive stay and the genuine feeling of being in a historic place, make sure your room is inside the Chateau.

It's in a nice spot at the edge of Strasbourg's largest park, and the service employees are friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fine. The furniture in the room has aged, though it somehow adds to the "Chateau" feel. The walls are paper thin, so light sleepers should bring earbuds.

We had a lovely stay in this beautiful castle in Strasbourg. The room was spacious, clean throughout and well maintained, and breakfast was enjoyable. The reception staff welcomed us warmly as soon as we arrived and made us feel at home. The hotel is a bit outside the city center, but getting downtown by bus or train was easy, so that wasn't an issue for us. Checkout was the one problem, and it's why I'm taking off a star. Reception was meant to open at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, January 5th, but there was nobody there at 7:06. Our taxi, booked for 7:00 a.m., was waiting, and we couldn't leave on time because no one was at the desk to take our keys. The driver charged us a late fee, and we had to rush to catch our train. When the receptionist eventually arrived, she said she'd been in the kitchen, but the desk had been unattended. Apart from that checkout hassle, we really enjoyed our stay.

It was amazing to spend a stay in a real life chateau, and we even enjoyed meeting the hotel cat. The rooms and breakfast were good. It's a lovely, quiet location, about a 20 minute drive or £20 Uber ride from Strasbourg city centre.
