The house at Mas Armelin is beautiful, with gorgeous grounds and a cute sausage dog named Hugo. It has plenty to offer, but our stay in early June 2022 felt more like being at army camp than having a relaxing holiday. The host was rude and seemed to have a rule or an order for everything we did. When our friends told the host they were disappointed, they were warned not to post a review online, or the host would “find them”. If you want a pleasant stay in Provence and to leave without a threat hanging over you, I’d avoid this place.

We stayed in the two-bedroom family apartment on a B&B basis with our children, aged 10 and 6. The apartment is a lovely space, with pretty gardens and a communal pool. The kids also enjoyed playing with the dog, cat, and rabbit. There were too few loungers by the pool. The owners kept two reserved, but when our 10-year-old went ahead of us for a swim before breakfast and put our things on loungers, she was reduced to tears. Other guests who saw it said the male owner's tone and behavior were inappropriate. Pool and garden rules were strict: no splashing or jumping, including splash-free dives, four people at a time, and keep the noise down. The owners said they were concerned about water use. Breakfast cost €10 per person for a croissant, bread, and a small bowl of fruit, and we had to wash up our things afterwards. When my husband raised how the owner had treated our daughter, he got very angry and unpleasant. His wife had to ask him to calm down because other guests were eating breakfast. He told us he was the owner and we were “only guests”. As we were leaving, we were told photos had been taken of our children's room and belongings while we were out because the room was messy. I’ve never had an owner go into a guest’s room and take photos to use as a threat. Another guest told us they had also photographed our things around the pool while we went back for breakfast. Our children are children. Their room was messy, yes, but they were on holiday. They were generally well behaved and not especially noisy by the pool. The insults about their upbringing were a nasty parting shot that left a bad taste. Based on earlier reviews, I expect an aggressive response to this one, but I think it matters to share what happened. There are friendlier, nicer places nearby where you don’t feel you have to walk on eggshells.

The owners' advice shaped so much of our week. It helped us find beautiful places around Provence, catch the best art shows, and eat really well. We even got a tip on where lavender was still blooming after most fields had been harvested. Don’t miss Carrière de lumières if you’re nearby! The old mas has been beautifully refurbished and has everything you need for a great stay. We spent a week there and could easily have stayed twice as long. It’s well placed for trips in every direction, from Aix to Camargue and Avignon to Roussillon. Happy Hugo and cuddly Paul made the stay even better. Seeing how lovingly their furry friends are treated was heartwarming. We hope to return soon.

We had a lovely time at Mas Armelin. It’s an old estate, with a pool and rooms that feel modern and nice. The hosts were lovely and tried to accommodate every wish they could.

The hosts, Kate and her husband, are such down-to-earth people. The place feels secluded, with an awesome pool and the cutest dog named Jugo. It was like having my own little world in Europe, almost like Fantasy Island. France is stepping up its game! I love this place and will recommend it to everyone. Thanks 🙂💕💕💕
