Mas Des Prêcheurs

The property is so spacious that at times it felt like we had it to ourselves, and the pool is beautiful. It was like staying in a huge, lovely villa belonging to a friend. We spent a week at the Hotel, our favorite place in France so far. You can help yourself to drinks from the fridge whenever you like, though the selection could be bigger. We had a great time and will be back.

Camille welcomed us warmly and cooked a fantastic dinner. The moment you arrive, the beautiful setting makes you feel relaxed. The interior design is spot on, with inspiring furniture, art, and literature. It really does feel like a hidden gem. My one change would be the kitchen coffee machine: capsules don’t fit a Mas that promotes sustainable tourism.

Rita was lovely, welcoming, and friendly in the morning. Dinner is a different story: there’s no staff around, and one night someone ate our dinner with nobody available to help. That was very poor. Clearing your own dishes is fine, but at €200 a night it probably shouldn’t be expected. You also can’t use the fridge. The outside spaces are a real plus, with several spots to choose from. You can sit by the pool with other guests or find loungers scattered around the property for some privacy. Inside, the dining room and lounge are both very nice. Breakfast was good, and the website makes clear that dinner is vegetarian, so that wasn’t an issue. The portions were small, though, and €30 for a small serving of vegetables didn’t feel like good value. There were flies around too. The rooms are tastefully done and the beds are very comfortable, but ours felt small for a superior room in the countryside, and storage for clothes could be better. The shower was blocked, though it was fixed quickly. The floorboards creak a lot, the walls are thin, and we were woken by the first risers each morning. WiFi didn’t reach our room. There’s Starlink, but it’s for the owners, not paying guests. I’d give it 4 stars overall. To reach 5, they should improve WiFi or let guests use Starlink, fix the creaky floors, and have someone available at dinner. And they have the friendliest cat we’ve met in a while. We’ll miss her.

The people at Mas des Prêcheurs were warm-hearted, and we’ll certainly return. It’s a stylish renovation with lots of attention to detail, and good value if you’re happy not to have someone wait on you. Breakfast and dinner are prepared in the dining room’s open kitchen for guests to serve themselves. We also found it very toddler-friendly, though there are stairs in the building and in the room. It’s conveniently located near popular tourist spots such as Gordes and Arles.
