Relais de Thezillieu

After a good bike ride, a cocktail on the sunny terrace was a lovely way to unwind. The Relais de Thezillieux also made a great base for our cycling trips, and we’d gladly come back. We spent a week there and were welcomed warmly by the charming couple who run it. Meals were generous throughout, from breakfast to picnic lunches and dinner. Breakfast always brought something different, including delicious French toast and fresh bread. Dinner was excellent, nicely presented, and plentiful. Well done to the chef, you helped make our stay.

We’d gone to the wrong restaurant, but they welcomed us kindly and we had lunch at the bar. The food was excellent, the price reasonable, and they even provided cloth napkins. The nougat glacé was a highlight. It’s a very quiet spot, with shaded parking near the church. We still have really fond memories of that Friday lunch.

We waited half an hour for coffee on the terrace, then left without being served. The owner kept talking to other guests and ranting about “Ecolodges where only the rich go,” even though that’s where we were staying. Someone else was setting tables for lunch, but nobody paid us any attention. We left under the owner’s watchful eye. This was an astonishing experience, and the owner’s complaints made them seem completely unsuited to welcoming guests.

Those frog legs were absolutely delicious, and the whole family enjoyed the meal. We had a very pleasant lunch there yesterday. The setting was lovely and the atmosphere wonderfully peaceful, with really friendly staff. Kudos to the chef and the whole team.
