Le Prieuré de Boulogne

The restaurant was a terrible experience. I found a 1.5 cm worm in my salad, but they still tried to charge me for the full three-course meal after I canceled it once the worm was found. I hadn't received all three courses. In the end, I warned them and paid for the courses that had come to the table. The room was nice, and the nature around the property was beautiful, especially the little pond. The pool was enjoyable when it wasn't too crowded. Sound insulation in the rooms is poor, which is especially a problem if there are kids staying in nearby rooms.

This was an extremely traumatic experience. The hotel charged €88 for breakfast from my card authorization at midnight without my consent. When I asked for an explanation, they were very rude. I paid €20 per pet per night at this pet-friendly hotel. They said my dog had barked. I had clearly asked them to contact me through Booking messages if they needed me to come back, but they ignored that request. I also sent a written message asking for a quiet environment so my dog could calm down. Instead, they entered my room while I was away, which only made things worse. I was gone for 2 hours and 10 minutes. When I returned, the hotel was completely quiet and I heard no barking. They wouldn't provide any evidence and blamed me for everything. Afterward, my dog developed severe anxiety and started self-harming. The vet found no other cause, and I still don't know what happened in the room while I was away. The next day, they had promised to discuss it in the morning. I waited 2 hours for the manager, who was dismissive and even said they could have “taken it out of the hotel and put it in the wild so that it escapes”. I felt extremely uncomfortable with how I was treated. They refused to talk properly, so I had to leave. After I contacted Booking.com, the hotel repeatedly lied, including saying that we had used the breakfast. They also changed the timeline, telling Booking that my dog had barked “continuously from 8pm to 1am”, which is ridiculous. Their statements kept changing as I submitted more evidence. I can stand by every word I say and provide supporting evidence. The hotel provided no proof and resorted to lies when challenged. It was traumatic for both me and my dog, and I would never recommend this hotel, especially to pet owners or foreigners. Besides being unprofessional, I believe they dared to treat me this way because I'm apparently a foreigner with a foreign credit card, and they thought I might not have the energy or the means to defend my rights.

The staff were friendly and professional, and our large room was beautifully furnished. The hotel sits in a magnificent park-like setting and is beautiful. Extremely good value, highly recommended!

We made the most of the sunshine by the pool and had a wander around the grounds. The buildings are beautiful, there's plenty of parking, and the staff are friendly. Dinner and breakfast were excellent, and the wine was lovely, though the list was rather small. A perfect stopover when heading toward the Cherbourg area.
