Bonsai Cherbourg

We didn’t sleep in the room. I ended up in my car because it was that bad. There were insects on the bed, dirt on the floor, hairs in the sink and on the bed and towels, a strange smell, and damp walls. A prison would be cleaner. We paid €60 for one night, which is ridiculous. The staff didn’t seem very concerned. A woman said I’d get a refund within 3 days, but she didn’t seem happy about it and wasn’t apologetic, so I’m not holding back. I think this place should be closed down.

I’ve worked in tourism for twenty years, and I want to focus on how the staff treat guests, which should come first, rather than list the many problems with the rooms or hotel. I asked the receptionist, who owns the hotel, whether there was a room in the middle section instead of a corner room. It was a simple, reasonable request. They told me there were no middle rooms, but gave one to someone else. I can’t think of much worse than lying to a guest.

The bedding had blood stains and little curly hairs all over it, and the bathroom and shower were covered in hair. The place was outright disgusting. When we reported it, the receptionist apologized, but the manager didn’t even speak to us directly. We were told he’d look at the room later, while the cleaners had already gone in. I also ended up with little red, itchy bites on my leg. The bedding clearly hadn’t been changed in a while. The receptionist could only do so much, and saving a few quid isn’t worth it if you’re worried about getting an infection from the bedding.

It’s in a good spot for the ferry, but the insects were everywhere, crawling over the floor and bed. Really, really awful. I’d never sleep there.
