Demeures & Châteaux - Hôtel Greuze & Spa Tournus

The hotel felt worn out, dusty, and tired, squeezed between the highway and the river, and breakfast was boring. The staff seemed inexperienced, and management’s response was outrageous: after we left a flattering Booking.com review, they sent us a harsh text telling us never to come back. Don’t go there!

I came to Tournus for a little over a week of cycling, and my appearance probably didn’t fit the hotel’s luxury atmosphere. Still, the staff made me feel completely welcome. They were always friendly and happy to chat when they had time, and nothing seemed too much trouble. My room was a good size, though storage was a bit limited. The bed was comfortable, and I slept extremely well. The bathroom facilities were what I’d expect at this class of hotel. I especially enjoyed the excellent breakfast on the terrace facing the abbey. For other meals I went to the Chapuis restaurants around the corner, which were excellent in many ways. I loved the place and hope to return as soon as I can.

We stayed six nights and had a wonderful time at this friendly hotel in the heart of Tournus. It’s set back from the main road, so there isn’t much noise. From the back, the hotel looks out toward the Abbaye, and there’s a small terrace where we had an excellent continental breakfast in the morning sun. The room was comfortable, and service was friendly and efficient.

The staff were really lovely and helpful, and breakfast was good. There are two restaurants on site. Our superior room on the first floor was very comfortable, with a nice new bathroom. We ate at the Bistro Le Bouchon, where the service was very good and the food was high quality. They were also able to make a delicious vegetarian risotto on the spot.
