Hv Tel Le Sauvage

An old-fashioned hotel with charm, friendly staff and good bike storage. The breakfast was just okay. Trains and traffic can be noisy, which might be difficult for some people.

At Hôtel Le Sauvage, we felt very welcome. One man was handling reception and serving as a waiter, and he went out of his way to help us. The service was fantastic. It's a charming 3* hotel, just what we expected and more. The public areas and rooms were comfortable and pleasant, and everywhere was very clean. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious, made with local produce. We were very happy with our choice and would stay again.

We stopped for dinner on the way back to the UK from the Alps and had a really nice evening. We started with two pression on the terrace in the evening sun, then had an excellent meal inside after sunset. The summer 3 course 'menu of the day' was perfect at €19.50, and the service was very friendly.

The rooms were decent, but dinner was absolutely appalling. The waitress barely seemed to know what smiling was, and our aperitif came after the first dish. It was almost impossible to explain that this wasn't what we expected, since the waiter spoke very little French. The meat and vegetables in the main course both seemed straight from the freezer. We had to ask three times for the wine list, which finally arrived halfway through dinner, and all the vintage years had been erased without replacements. They also forgot the dessert included in the menu, and never asked if we'd like coffee or a digestif. When we raised all this at the bill, the manager just stared blankly and said, “oh, OK … I am not counting the aperitif then…”. We then had to pay by cheque or cash because the card reader wasn't working anymore.
