We really enjoyed our visit. After calling Thomas, we met an hour later, and he showed us the production hall where wine ages in ceramic tanks. He explained which grape varieties they grow and use, then gave us a tasting in a creatively decorated room. His explanations were clear and detailed. We’d been passing along the Canal du Midi and stopped near the Cantelauze winery. Thomas even brought the wines we bought back to our boat.

The pool was clean, with lots of room for sun loungers, and the outdoor dining area became our main gathering spot. It was handy having plumbing and electricity outside, and we kept the fridges stocked with drinks. Our group of 16 rented both houses in the middle of the working vineyard. They’re professionally renovated, with first class furnishings and equipment, and small touches like the wine cooler make a difference. The bedrooms were spacious, clean, and comfortable, with modern showers. Thomas welcomed us at the beginning and end, and was available around the clock. When we had an issue, he sorted it out within minutes, though there weren’t many. We toured the vineyard, tasted Thomas’ wines, and had a mind-blowing gourmet dinner with France's youngest ever Michelin-starred chef. Fabulous from start to finish, and I’d heartily recommend staying here.

The wines were delicious, dry with bright acidity and plenty of fruit. We tasted seven over two hours, while learning about the winemaking and vineyard history. He’s a new world winemaker near Trebes, working in a stunning winery. We rode our bikes up the driveway, with vines and olive trees on either side, and felt very welcome. If you’re boating on the canal du midi, stop near the bridge and walk or cycle the gentle 1k hill. Phone ahead to book a time. It’s a must do.

We called about a tasting and the owner managed to fit us in that same day. Such friendly people, great wines, and a really unique approach to making and labelling them. An absolute must visit.

For the last part of our Le Boat trip, we wanted good food and wine, so Domain Canalauze was a lovely stop. The owner was passionate, and the visit felt personal and authentic. We’d been hoping for a genuine canal de midi experience, with a chance to practise our French, and this fit right in. Thanks again.
