Hotel Du Poète

Months ago, I booked a room for one night to break up the long drive to the mountains. Today they called to say they were overbooked. Other reviews suggest this has happened before. With our trip so close, finding somewhere else is practically impossible. A really dubious way to operate.

Breakfast was fantastic, and the lake view made it even better. I felt comfortable the whole time and everything was just right. Thanks so much to the whole Team. I’ll come back when I’m in the area. Merci beaucoup!

With two young kids, we were left to figure out where to sleep on our own. The manager hung up during our call when I wouldn’t accept paying €400 for the alternative hotel, and she never picked up when I called back. I was annoyed but still polite, even though my French isn’t very good. Earlier that evening, the reception had called to say they’d overbooked our two two-bedroom rooms, booked months ahead for one night on our family ski trip. We’d planned the stop to split up the long drive. I’d called at 14:30 to say traffic might make us late for the 20:00 reception closing time, and they appreciated the heads-up. Around 19:20 they called back to say only one two-bedroom was available, and all four of us couldn’t stay in it. They offered another hotel with four beds, which seemed fine until they said it would cost €400. I understand overbooking can happen, but abandoning us like that was really cold. Lousy service.

The team were very friendly, and the location is beautiful, though there was a lot of traffic in front of the house at certain times. My room was small, sticky, and looked out over bushes at the back. It’s pricey, and breakfast costs a lot for what you get. Better to upgrade to a lake view. Getting there without a car is tough, about a 40-minute walk from the station.
