We disputed the $80 beach chair charge with our credit card company and got the money back. It covered four chairs, even though we’d only used two, and two of those billed chairs had been empty near us. My wife paid because she thought the bill was for the food I’d ordered. We’d stopped at Hotel Bakoua during a cruise and asked a staff member in a blue and white uniform about chair fees before sitting down. He said the covered or cabana-style chairs cost money, but regular lounge chairs were free. We used two for a couple of hours based on that. When I contacted management, they wouldn’t help. The manager said she had to attend a meeting and walked away without sorting it out. The whole thing felt dishonest and was extremely disappointing. Since cruise passengers may only be there briefly, it’s concerning that this can happen. I’d advise visitors to get any chair charges confirmed in writing, or bring a towel to avoid surprise fees. Based on our experience, I can’t recommend the property. Please be cautious.

The room was average at best, but the mattress and pillows were top tier, and I mainly needed a place to sleep. For that, it was perfect. The location is the big draw: we had a room right on the beach, and the Creole village was a three-minute walk away. I went to the Baguet Shop for breakfast every morning, and the marina was five minutes away. Best of all, there was a “private” beach.

The location is great and the view is amazing, but the rest was disappointing. The staff were often rude and dismissive, and at best, not helpful. The rooms need repair. My AC wasn’t working and the door’s deadbolt was missing. The paint and decor are well past their prime, and some friends had a shower head that sprayed water everywhere.

The hotel is showing its age, and the breakfast quality left a lot to be desired. The location gets four stars from me, though: the neighborhood is lively, with souvenir shopping for tourists and a handful of different restaurants.

The bed was comfortable and our room was clean, but the hotel and rooms felt very tired and dated. In several rooms our party had, the safe and kettle didn’t work, the door deadbolt needed attention, and one bathroom sink unit had cracks.
