The location is superb, tucked into a quiet part of the historic city center. We also appreciated having private parking in the courtyard, though getting in and out was a squeeze and the friendly hotelier helped us. Our ground-floor appartment was nicely furnished and laid out. It felt a little like staying in an annexe at a friend’s home. The beautiful buildings are still being renovated, and that work in progress is reflected in the very reasonable price. We loved the place and would come back. I gave it three stars because the buildings are only partly renovated and the stay is mostly self-service. That isn’t a criticism.

We’ve visited Troyes before, but this is definitely one of the best places we’ve stayed in the old city. The breakfast service was more than excellent, and the beds were very comfortable. Our room was spacious, the price was reasonable, and the service was perfect. It’s a lovely little spot in an old building. We’ll come back.

We were glad this was only a one-night stop. We’ve been touring by motorcycle for over 20 days and stayed in lots of hotels and apartments, and this was the worst of the trip. We booked through Expedia for four older men on motorcycles. The instructions said to contact the hotel 24 hours ahead for check-in details because there was no front desk. I did, but got no reply. I tried again 12 hours before arrival and heard nothing, so when we arrived we called and were told to check in at the hotel about 300 metres away. They then said there was no parking. I’d mentioned in my message that we were arriving on motorcycles, and if we’d known the situation 24 hours earlier, we could have changed the booking. After more discussion, they said two bikes could park at the property and two at the hotel. That turned out to be only one at the property. Luckily, we managed to fit the third bike at the hotel. The accommodation was extremely rustic. We entered through a broken garage door and climbed a badly dilapidated staircase. The apartment we booked had two king beds, a queen bed and a sofa bed, but there was no bedding for the sofa. When I called, I was told bedding would cost extra. I said I’d paid for the apartment and expected it to be included, but ended up sleeping without it.

We stayed just one night and wished we could have stayed longer. The restored building has real charm, and it’s close to the train station and handy for Troyes’s sights. Everyone was friendly and accommodating. I appreciated how much they care about the building and Troyes’s heritage.
