Brit Hotel Les Comtes de Champagne Centre Historique

For 130 euros, I expected a better night’s sleep. It’s a charming hotel in an old building and they try their best, but there’s no air conditioning, the insulation is poor, and the rooms get quite hot in summer. You can also hear other guests, as well as drunken revelers and cars in the street. The rooms are nicely decorated and well maintained, but the bathroom light’s motion sensor is awful: it turns on when nobody’s there and switches off if you stand or sit still for 3 seconds. One bedside light has no socket, so it doesn’t work at all.

The staff were friendly, and the breakfast was about what you’d expect at a 2 star hotel. Troyes’ centre is brilliantly located for this hotel, but my room was really poor quality. I paid more than my friend because mine was supposedly a premium room, but as the photos will show, it was far from that.

The hotel parking was fully booked, so I had to leave the car in the main car park, a 3 mins walk away.

Breakfast had a good spread, though the room for it felt cramped, and there’s a bar too. The building is beautiful, but could use some interior decorating. We managed without air conditioning thanks to the electric fans they supplied, which helped. The city centre location meant noisy revellers kept us up until the early hours, followed by early risers. That’s the trade-off for staying centrally.
