The folk games and gardens make a visit here a nice change from beach days or shopping. There’s plenty of history to take in, too, and admission helps support the upkeep of this historic place.

We were so lucky to meet Martine, who told us the chateau’s story in wonderful Spanish. The place itself is beautiful and feels completely authentic. We had an amazing visit, thank you so much! ❤️

The bay views are lovely, and the mansion is well placed for visiting Bayonne, San Sebastián, and Biarritz, with great beaches all around and plenty of good Basque food. For a bigger city trip, Bordeaux is there too, a little Paris!

There’s a pleasant walk through the park and garden, followed by rooms furnished and arranged in an authentic style. The chateau has a history reaching back before the 14th century, and the service was friendly in English. You can use a QR code to access an audio guide. The price was reasonable.

The gardens are lovely, and the traditional games kept both the children and adults entertained. We were warmly welcomed, and the charming little chateau comes with a written guide in several languages or online. It gives a thorough account of the building and its owners. Highly recommended.
