Getting back late was a miserable experience. The place was totally dark, the lights didn’t come on by themselves, and I had to go around the back. Forget about grabbing a beer then. The welcome wasn’t warm either. The hotel feels past its best: old room decor, dirty carpet, smelly hallways, and almost no TV reception. Breakfast really is just a petit déjeuner, basically jam and ham for your baguette or croissant. There’s fresh orange juice, but you have to squeeze it yourself. Maybe it was good years ago, but it isn’t now.

The restaurant was fine, though nothing special. The room, on the other hand, felt old-fashioned and let the cold in because the insulation was poor. The bathroom needs a renovation and the bedding should be replaced. For that level of service, it’s much too expensive and poor value.

We happened to stop at this hotel restaurant for a meal on the way to Paris. The food was delicious and the portions were generous, and the owner was really friendly. Service felt worthy of a fine dining place. The prices were more than excellent value: a kids’ menu was €7-9, and the adult menu, with starter, main course, and dessert, was €21 and available even on Sundays. Add 25 minutes to your trip instead of stopping in Laval, you won’t be disappointed.
