Hotel La Tovière

Every member of staff gave exceptional service, and the ski guides Alex and Patrick were really friendly. I left my boot bag at the hotel, and they even posted it back home for me. The hotel was excellent, right across from the lift, and the food was fantastic, with a breakfast buffet and three choices for each dinner course. I’d definitely recommend it.

The hotel felt a bit like a waiting room, with little space to relax after skiing. The bar wasn’t very welcoming for a drink, and there was no outdoor seating for sunny days. Dinner felt rushed too: we ordered three courses in advance and they were served in under 30 minutes. In our room, 306, we could hear and see signs of woodworm. That wasn’t surprising in a wooden chalet, but the woodworm needs treating, and hearing it while trying to sleep was off-putting. The hotel also looked a bit tired in places. We stayed with Neilson, and the transfers, chartered flights and location in Val D’Isere were all fantastic. We enjoyed the breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner options, and the spa was a nice feature. I’d recommend Neilson for a ski trip.

George was especially helpful with food for my girlfriend, who’s a coeliac. Without him, that would have been much more difficult. The staff were unbelievable throughout our Neilson holiday. We had a family room that worked perfectly for all six of us. After skiing, the spa was a nice place to unwind. Dinner was a nice three-course meal, while breakfast was a buffet with plenty of choices and daily specials. The coffee wasn’t great, though not awful. Afternoon tea was included and turned out to be much more than I expected, with sandwiches, cakes and more.

La Toviere feels like a family-run hotel, and the staff really seem to care about you. They were all friendly and personable. The rooms are stylish and modern, with super comfortable beds, and we were able to change skis and boots at no extra charge. The food was very good, especially the generous full breakfasts. I went with my daughter, who was 14 at the time, and we had a wonderful time. The location is a little off the beaten path, but the pistes are across the street, and town’s trendy shops and restaurants are a short walk or free bus ride away. We can’t come back this year, but I’m already booking for next year. Absolutely loved it.
