Residence & Spa Les Chalets de Solaise

The pool and views were very nice, and otherwise it was a nice place to stay. But the apartment seemed dirty, and I had trouble working out the heating. There was no oven, and the dishwasher was completely broken for five of our seven days. We called for help on the second day and they refused; the woman on the phone, who I believe was called Anna, was very rude and only reluctantly gave us supplies to clean our own dishes. I'm mostly happy with it, despite those problems.

We booked at 10am for a 3pm arrival that same day, and found no linen, bedding or towels when we got there. Only afterwards were we told linen had to be booked 24 hours ahead, which wasn't possible with a same day booking. We contacted the number Expedia gave us, but the message was in French and I couldn't understand it well. A man eventually answered, wasn't helpful and said he could do nothing, repeating that we should have booked linen 24 hours in advance. He refused a refund even though we needed a bed with linen, or at least a blanket when it was only 7 degrees. Expedia, who we booked through, were sympathetic and found us another place. The apartment was at the back of an old building, very dirty, with construction above us and a jackhammer going for the whole hour we were there. The noise wasn't the main issue, though. They accepted a last minute booking but wouldn't arrange any bedding under their policies. After reading other bad reviews, we had tried it anyway because very little was available. Now we're in a comfortable hotel in another area for half the price. It was inconvenient to drive two hours to get here, but we had no choice. I wish I'd taken those reviews more seriously. Do not stay here.

The apartments are still good, but P&V service has gone downhill since we first stayed here years ago. Our 2020 booking was carried forward until now, and we were looking forward to returning. Reception, which used to be staffed daily, now only has staff on Saturday and Sunday. The pool table and, more shockingly, the rubbish bins have gone too. This place used to be a cut above the standard P&V apartments. It's a shame to see it decline, especially when the prices haven't gone down along with it.

Set back from the main road, it's still close to shops and ski lifts, with a small amount of parking available. The staff were friendly, and there was a sauna, small gym and pool table. Our room had no drawers or cupboard for clothes, just a wardrobe and coat hooks, which was my one small criticism. The rooms were clean and spacious with modern interiors, and the big bathroom had been newly refurbished. Best P&V we've stayed in.
