The bakery on a side street was nice, though you’ll want to check when it opens since it isn’t open every morning. This felt more like a rental apartment than a hotel, so there were no slippers, soap, or shampoo provided. We found the place shortly before our trip, and I can’t compare it with other hotels in Valenciennes. It’s a three-storey French apartment building with wooden floors and a lift. My top-floor room had its own kitchenette and was very clean, though the bathroom towels didn’t seem very clean. My friend was in room number 4 and found the bed and kitchenette really cramped. One evening the water heater broke, so I had to wait two hours to shower. Caroline was reachable and gave directions, but I wish she’d used English to communicate. I always wrote in English, while she replied in French, so I had to translate her messages.

It’s a lovely house, with old-fashioned charm alongside modern comforts. Everything you’d need for a few days is there, and it was very clean and beautifully decorated. I’d definitely recommend it.
