Royal Hainaut Spa & Resort Hotel

We arrived on 15 February at Royal Hainaut Spa & Resort Hotel, which is listed in the Michelin Guide, and the stay was disappointing right from the start. The room was extremely cold, and instead of repairing the heating, they gave us a portable electric heater. The cups were dirty and had to be replaced after we reported them. The safe didn’t work and staff couldn’t get it fixed. We booked dinner at La Galerie for 19:30. The starter took about an hour to arrive, and at around 21:30 we were told the main course would take even longer. Because it was our child’s bedtime, we had to leave the restaurant and complain. The food was eventually brought up to our room. For a hotel with this reputation and a Michelin Guide listing, the comfort, organization, and service fell far short of what we expected. Update, 17 February: It was checkout day. Other than a written reply under my earlier review, nobody at the hotel had contacted us during the stay to follow up or ask how things were going. At checkout, the receptionist only asked if I wanted to speak with the manager. I declined and said I’d already shared my feedback on Google. We were there for two nights and three days, but no one tried to address the problems from the first day and night. I don’t know if this was a communication gap, an internal procedure, or something else, but it left us feeling our feedback hadn’t really been considered. I’ll also share the experience with Michelin, since I believe places with that recognition should be carefully evaluated for service quality and guest care.

The breakfast was a nice start to the day, and we enjoyed dinner at “La Gallerie”. For the price, the quality felt fair, especially with the pleasant atmosphere and professional staff. Our room was lovely too, in a historic building that’s been renovated very nicely.

We came as a group of 23, and the reception and organization were spot on. The reservation team and everyone working there were so helpful. Dinner at La Storia was superb, the kind of meal that felt Michelin Star worthy, and the Brasserie was delicious and great value for both breakfast and dinner. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and well maintained, with impressive rooms and a very comfortable bed. A fabulous historic place with gorgeous interiors and really friendly staff.

Breakfast was a real treat, and the spa was good too, though the treatments cost a bit much. The room and service were top notch. Definitely a winner in Valenciennes.
