Le Jardin de Celina

They weren’t serving lunch on Friday, which was fine. But when we asked about it, the staff said dinner was available from 1900, so we came back then. Only then were we told we hadn’t made a reservation and they were fully booked. They were either already full at lunchtime and could have told us not to come back, or they still had tables but didn’t mention that we needed to book. Either way, a very poor way to deal with customers.

The wine cellar is small but packed with vintage bottles, so there’s a good choice for pairing with dinner. We had some beautifully cooked dishes and the wine pairings were great. The menu isn’t huge, which is a plus if you want to try something interesting and well made. Well done cuisine!

The food was very good, but the service was poor. We were two people dining together and still weren’t allowed to split the bill. We tried to pay with ApplePlay, and the cashier got very angry and unprofessional, calling an assistant for help while complaining about our choice to use contactless payment. It made us feel really uncomfortable. We even said we were staying five minutes from the restaurant and could get a plastic card if needed. Why was he so cross?

The cottages are a good size and feel cozy. Our stay was very short, and we didn’t really enjoy it because of a mix-up with Expedia about our prepaid breakfast vouchers. The woman at check-in made things uncomfortable and upsetting, and wasn’t willing to work with us to sort it out with Expedia. Breakfast itself was very average. There are other hotels in more convenient locations that would be a better deal.
