Hôtel Le Passage de Vallon

For the price, we expected more. The double bed and the room were both small, and the shower wasn’t clean, so we had to rinse it ourselves. It’s noisy being on a busy street, and breakfast wasn’t included. We won’t be back.

We got a table here when other places wouldn’t take reservations and would have turned us away. The staff were really friendly, and our dog was welcome too, with a bowl of water brought over. The food was simply excellent, served in a pleasant atmosphere, and the price for the menu was great. We started with a delicious salad and foie gras, then had bavette, cooked just right and wonderfully tender. Nothing to complain about.

The mussels were overcooked, completely bland, and came in watery soup with tomatoes and a ladleful of tasteless blue cheese cream. We were badly disappointed. Another customer complained too, but the owner brushed them off. We should’ve checked the reviews before spending so much. This felt like a tourist trap, not a restaurant.

The one room key also locks the hotel entrance, which becomes a real nuisance if you and your partner aren’t up at the same time. You have to go down to open the outside door, take the key back upstairs, and hope nobody has locked it again. There’s no parking nearby, or it costs €3-4 an hour, or you’re limited to a one-hour blue zone. It’s a constant hassle. The hotel itself is very average, with a small room, bedding that needs replacing and a basic reception.
